Outfit Diary: A New York Minute
what I planned on wearing vs what I actually wore, plus a mini recap
NYFW: 1, Me: 0. I’m still recovering from a terrible cold that took me out after a whirlwind trip to New York for Fashion Week. It was one of those last-minute, ‘why not?’ jaunts that turned into one of the most memorable NYC experiences I’ve ever had. It’s funny how those spontaneous adventures often become the ones we treasure most, isn’t it?
Now let’s chat about packing/planning outfits for this trip. I won’t lie, I was a bit stressed trying to figure out what to bring. The weather was doing that tricky in-between thing, my schedule varied from daytime activities to evening events, and let’s be real — I’m a notorious over-packer. I knew I had my work cut out for me.
The first order of business was a deep dive into IG for some outfit inspiration. I was on the hunt for winning outfit recipes with versatile pieces I could easily restyle throughout the trip. As I scrolled, it dawned on me that I had a few special pieces in my own wardrobe that had been patiently waiting for their moment in the spotlight. Suddenly, planning my looks went from daunting to downright exciting.

I’d been wanting to rock a denim-on-denim ‘short suit’, and day one of the trip was the perfect opportunity. There’s something about a collarless, boxy denim jacket in dark indigo that simply exudes chic. Paired with pleated denim Bermudas in a near-identical wash, it created quite the lewk.
Originally, I’d planned to wear my pre-loved Jil Sander mules, but with a packed day ahead, comfort was my top priority. I swapped them for my olive Freda Salvador loafers. This outfit combo — including my suede Savette Pochette and monogrammed loafers — turned heads everywhere from The Love List pop-in at Gramercy Park to the Moda Operandi shopping suite at Casa Cipriani.
The ultimate compliment? A Moda stylist mistook my ensemble for TWP. Definitely chalking that up as a win!
That evening, I had plans for casual drinks and dinner with former co-workers — now SF to NY transplants — in the East Village. As temperatures dipped after sunset, I seized the opportunity to debut my latest (and possibly greatest) eBay find to-date: a men’s vintage suede jacket I discovered through Trash Panic’s vintage roundup. It’s quickly become a favorite, and I anticipate reaching for it constantly this fall.
For our East Village jaunt, I aimed for cool comfort with a touch of edge. I wore a semi-sheer shirt tucked into dark wash jeans, accented with a croc-embossed leather belt. I opted for my favorite Khaite studded mules (an end-of-season sale score) over heels and swapped my usual lace bra for a bandeau under the sheer top. The look hit the right notes for the neighborhood’s relaxed yet stylish vibe.
Friday | 9.6
Friday was relatively light on the daytime agenda. The only item on the schedule was a press preview in SoHo for one of my favorite jewelry lines, Agmes. The forecast called for hot and humid conditions, which felt like the perfect opportunity for my sheer Siedrès skirt to make its debut. Chic and breathable for the win.
My original plan was to pair the skirt with an oversized shirt, but the temps quickly nixed that idea. Luckily, I’d packed this versatile Staud vest, which turned out to be the perfect solution. Not only did it keep me cool, but it also channeled the Attersee sculpted vest I've been eyeing for ages.
For the evening, I channeled my inner New Yorker with a classic all-black ensemble. It was the perfect chance to show off my dream Khaite dress (a major Poshmark find!) paired with these amazing vintage Gucci sandals I snagged from The Millenial Decorator. I almost went for this cute vintage minaudière from Gimi Rarity, but let’s be real — it was tiny. My trusty ‘90s bag came to the rescue, proving yet again why it’s the perfect evening accessory.
The evening was packed with events, kicking off with dinner in the West Village. I met up with a friend from SF who was coincidentally in town for work. From there, I headed to two back-to-back events: one for Freja and another for FWRD / Renggli. It was a busy night of catching up and networking across the city.
Saturday | 9.7
Saturday rolled around, and I was secretly thrilled to have a pretty chill day ahead. I had two things on my plate: a laid-back brunch uptown with my partner’s family and dinner at Raf’s with some of the best people — you know, those internet friends who’ve become real-life friends. Sometimes the best New York days are the ones where you can just breathe and enjoy good company.
I kept it simple for brunch and an afternoon shmy around Madison Ave. I popped into J.Crew and picked up a copy of the catalog (so happy it’s back!) Side note: the Men’s shop on Madison has better inventory than the Women’s store across the street! And hot tip: I tried on the Men’s classic barn jacket and it is top tier.
I also made a pitstop at The Fifth Avenue Hotel to pick up their signature candle (yes, I’m that person.) But, for real, this candle is the GOAT. I remember walking into the hotel last winter to go to The Portrait Bar — I immediately asked if it was possible to get my hands on this candle. The good news was yes, but sadly, you can only buy it from the front desk, so I stock up whenever I’m in town.
For dinner that evening, I decided to remix one of my current go-to outfit combos— a cinched blazer paired with capris. It's a look that never disappoints. I slipped on my Jil Sander mules and grabbed my suede Savette, and ran out the door. I just love a reliable outfit formula that you can throw together with your eyes closed.
Sunday | 9.8
After a quick brunch on the Upper East Side, I headed to the airport. The weather finally decided to play along and give us a taste of real fall. As I strolled through the city in my barn jacket and airport clothes, I couldn’t help but grin. You know that feeling when the weather perfectly matches your outfit? Pure bliss. It was like New York was giving me one last perfect moment before I jetted off.
