'Fits + Finds of the week
in-between season dressing with loafers plus pre-fall gems worth noting
Hello! I’m excited to see so many new readers around here! Before we jump in, I’d like to say thank you and officially welcome you to Letters We Send Friends. I’m really glad you’re here.
‘Fits
It felt right to wear this easy shirt-capri combo for an early bird special at Elena’s to kick off the week.
These Frame capris* were the unexpected workhorse of the season — they've put in the hours to earn a spot in my roster of summer wardrobe MVPs. They make every outfit look chic and are so comfortable, which is why I’ve been wearing them non-stop with oversized shirts, tees, and blazers. As we ease into fall, I plan to wear them with a relaxed crewneck pullover (with a white tee peeking through the collar) or with a roll-neck sweater and slip-on mules or loafers.
I love wearing my “vacation pieces” with everyday clothes — they deserve love on regular days too. My embroidered fish clutch (a total catch I wore on vacation here) came out to play with the green stripes on my Rebecca Taylor shirt (similar here).
On Tuesday I had an early dinner with friends at the newly opened Little Original Joe’s on Chestnut St. It was another warm day in the city, which I took full advantage of — I pulled out this navy Khaite mini (a major end-of-season sale score) to pair with a striped cotton sweater from Sézane and my suede penny loafers* from Freda Salvador.
A jacket is always a good idea, even on warm days in San Francisco — I threw on my old barn jacket to round out the look. This outfit is a great example of in-between dressing, that I’ve now mastered after living in SF for over a decade.
On Friday I went to a fun loafer monogramming event at Freda Salvador and fell in love with these stunning olive loafers (currently on sale!)
It was a high of 70 that day, so I threw on an oldie-but-still-a-goodie slip dress (similar here), a sheer shirt as my light layer, and this gorgeous jasper pendant necklace from Daphine — which had been on my wishlist for a couple of months.
A slip dress plus a lightweight shirt combo has been making the rounds in my summer outfit rotation. I love balancing fluid, feminine pieces by adding something structured and masculine like a leather or suede loafer. Tying a shirt (or a knit) at the waist not only creates shape but also serves an easy hack for adding visual interest to your look.
Finds
Fall denim: My friend Clare wore these incredible Jamie Haller baggy painter jeans at Freda, which she styled impeccably. These jeans run very long — they’re perfect for tall gals wanting to rock a statement jean this fall. I’m wishing for a cropped version in the future!
A bevy of barn/field/chore and cropped trench jackets — like this Rag & Bone field jacket in a perfect olive hue and this barn-trench fusion from Citizens of Humanity. I also found some wallet-friendly options like this cozy check parka and this cool cropped trench. My friend Candice found this unisex jacket that’s giving Prada for nada.
Fall bags: This suede pillow hobo from Little Liffner could fit a 13-inch laptop, while this vintage Prada shoulder bag in suede and Spazzolato leather is roomy enough for your night-out essentials. A real (real) gem, this Maryam Nassir Zadeh pony hair bag is a statement-maker for a monochromatic black or denim on denim ensemble.
Denim on denim on denim: The blanket stitch details on Still Here’s western-inspired denim shirt are A++. This Shaina Mote work shirt in Italian denim looks vintage.
Red bottoms: These red wide leg trousers from Posse seem like a good alternative for The Row Chan pants. If you love elastic waistbands like I do, these Leset Yoko pants are the way to go.
Oxblood shoes and bags are gaining momentum as we head into fall. This leather pouch from Porto has been on my wishlist for some time now (comes in multiple sizes.) These Jamie Haller loafers are guaranteed to sell out this season — grab yours now before you get FOMO. This pair of Maria Luca patent slingbacks are sick — the square toe plus the stacked heel feels chic and wearable (also obsessed with the crystal anklet detail!)
Coming up next week: a new Styling S.O.S. edition. We're tackling the tricky world of in-between season dressing. I'll share some foolproof outfit ideas to help you navigate these transitional months with style.
